in the cheaper than dirt catalog. They have 50 rounds of .40 S&W advertised for under $10. That sounds almost too cheap to me. Has anyone bought and used it? If its any good it might be time to stockup for a rainy day.

Steel cases, Russian manufactured. I've used quite a bit of it relieving stress punching holes in paper. I've only used 9mm, it did OK.

The only steel cases ive ever fired were .30 M1 carbine WW2 surplus. Im wondering if they might have negative effects on the chamber and feeding mechanisms if I shoot a lot of them?

I've put at least 1,000 of them thru my Ruger P-95, no ill effects.

Steel cases cannot be reloaded, and are cheaper than brass.

Better order a couple boxes first, and make sure they feed correctly.

Ok if it is the only stuff you can afford. Really made for chromed chambers. Will work in unchromed chambers and comes with a corrosive primer mixture. Clean your gun well after shooting. Not something I would store longterm. But I would use it in a SHTF scenario.

It's fine to play with...even hunt with (in soft point version) but as a hand loader, it doesn't hold my attention much...look at like this: all those brass shells lying all over the country side will be there long after the steel ones have desolved into the dirt.

Its advertised as a non corrosive primer. I thought corrosive primers and powders went out with buggy whips anyway?

One advantage is it would be easy enough to police up the " brass" at the range after a day of shooting. Just get out one of those wide bodied magnets and go to it.

I used to have an SKS. The ammo was steel-cased, and inexpensive, coming from eastern Europe, I think. It was advertised as non-corrosive, and I think Dutch is right, there's very little corrosive primer ammunition out there anymore. But, I'm far from an expert.

That carbine was a cheap date. LOL. I think I paid 150 bucks for it, fresh out of Norinco Arms and smeared with cosmoline. Chromed barrel, decent sites. Definately a Chevy not a Cadillac, but it never jammed. Feeding it, while not on par with a .22 rimfire, was a song. It was also pretty accurate.

Where's this stuff made, Dutch?

They advertise the plain stuff as Russian and the " gold" as coming out of yugoslavia- the gold is brass cased and all rifle ammunition.

Seriously funny - there's a guy here who's shy a leg who keeps falling out of his wheelchair without even needing to use a gun. :D

I suggested a seatbelt and it was a revelation. Got a spare leftover Saab seatbelt, Joe? ;)

Definately non corrosive, you are thinking surplus ammo. This stuff is freshly manufactured. I don't hunt, though I wouldn't use it for that. I wouldn't use it for self defense either. I use it for target shooting and plinking only.

Seatbelts? That's so old tech. I think velcro would be much more creative addition to the wardrobe and the chair and be less restricting and keep one from slumping.

Also could get velcro wallpaper and just stick'm up there and he could hang out like he wasn't in the chair. Just wave and smile as folks walk by.

it's gotta be REALLY bad ammo to screw up a Kalishnikov.....

I was watching the news the other night, and they had vid of the African force just kicked out of Sudan. The guys were armed with SKSs!

Drop it, kick it, bury it, dig it up and go to war. The SKS is the progenitor of the Kalashnikov, both pretty damn good designs.
