Last Saturday when I picked up my granddaughter for the day there was a small pumpkin with a balloon and invitation attached by her mailbox. The invitation was for a kid's holloween party at a local church. The pumpkin is the important part.

We took our granddaughter to the local pumpkin patch - just to spend some time looking at the animals and playing with kids. In any case, there was talk about pumpkin pie and pumpkins. She saw some small pumpkin shaped gourds. We bought her one.

When my granddaughter arrived home, she had the great idea that she should make pumpkin pie from her 2 pumpkins (one was a gourd).

So with her mom's help she did whatever one does to turn 1 small pumpkin, 1 small pumpkin shaped gourd, some out dated half and half, and whatever else is necessary into a pumpkin pie.

She ate 1/4 of the pie. Not bad for a 3 year old.

I like what Garrison Keillor says about pumpkin pie:

"Pumpkin pie is the epitome of mediocrity. The best pumpkin pie you ever ate isn't that much better than the worst."

Even though I think Garrison nailed it, I do enjoy pumpkin pie.

Personally I prefer sweet potatoe pie over pumpkin pie.
