What style ya riding Phil?
Horse under me style...ya gits on and ya rides...
Light tack but sometimes I tie stuff on to take with me like saddle bags with food in them or a rifle...I have never ridden English style cause it looks like those are the ones most ignorant of what they're doin...striving for mechanical perfection with lots of discomfort in the "almost" saddle..."posting" is a way to make a miserable 30 mile ride. Perhaps my "style" could be described as utilitarian...I ride from points A to B or sometimes just look at the wildlife.
I am an anti-snob snob...translates to my talking about how wonderful Arabian horses are when I'm around either real or wannabe cowboys...it really pulls their chain! When I'm around those high-flown equestrians, I try to act like a cowboy or red neck to yank their chain.

Arabs are the smartest breed out there. I've known Arab horses that are smarter than some people.

My sister had Arabs for over 25 years. No she has a great galumphin thoroughbred mare... 16.3 about 1300 pounds... Man, when a thoroughbred takes off, it is certainly a site to behold... incredible power and speed.... but those little Arabs... boy are they tough. tough . tough.

When I was younger, and used to ride, I rode with a western stock saddle. I tried learning how to post with an english saddle a few years ago and never really liked it. I had a half Arab, half Quarter horse gelding. He was a beautiful animal, fast, smart, with a copper colored coat. That horse had the smoothest trot of any I'd ever been on. Just kind of rolled along. Unfortunately he died from a bout of colic when I was in college.:( He was in his twenties by then and had been with me since I was a child.

I may need a Belgian just to hold me up...I'd like to try an Arabian but worry about their skinny little legs...and my 250 pounds.

My horse was a good mixture of both breeds. He had the heavier muscling of a quarter horse, but the good looks anf agility of an Arab. He hauled some pretty large riders without a fuss.

\Peter, I'll have to post the sculpture my Dad did of Raffles, the original Arab in this country. He also was an Arab afficianado.
