Personally, up until the last couple of days I'd rather read one post of Brian's than 8000 of Katherine's. I can't remember K ever posting anything about a wooden boat, other than an occasional claim to own one. I understand she is probably a nice person to meet in person- any way she has managed to attract a sizeable fan club here- among the terminally desperate and those with fat wives, but its a damn shame to see this. Misogynist? not me! but my family is familiar with the claim that boats operate better with toilets and women thrown overboard.
Shamus, I'm sorry that Brian went suicidal too, as many others have said. But he did go suicidal. I'll hope for, and look forward to his return.
Katherine's good people, and yes - has a wooden boat all of her own too. Please don't mess with her. This thread topic has the potential to turn very ugly, very quickly. No need for you to go suicidal too (see above).

Tom- I watched some of it, and didn't see the worst. You could sure see there was a whole heap of PMs and orchestration going on. I'm sure K is good people, but Jesus she's posted a whole lot of air headed fatuous bull**** flirting crap over the time she's been here, I say she has FA value as a forum member except to those who have this particularly protecting superior male attitude, which apparently she wouldn't approve of anyway. If anyone can point me to a thread where she's helped someone fix a boat- I'll retract.

Shamus. this question can be addressed to a lot of people down here.
Myself included as there are lots of people who know a lot more than I do about boats and can be of more assistance. If anything, I have asked for help, not given it.
I really don't think this is that necessary to go into. So, I'm gonna bow out.
Shamus, show me a bilgerat, and I'll show you someone who, for at least a few, provides FA value to the forum. Or at least, whose positive contributions seem outweighed by their other stuff. I'd suspect, for instance, that Oyster thinks that of me.
This is beneath you. Reconsider.

Uncas at least I've seen a photo of your boat in its glory and in despair (sternpost.) You can learn something from that. That's your boat's sternpost not yours. I ain't gay.

All WB Forum Member are equal, but some are more equal than others?
shamus
10-06-2006, 10:04 AM
I think so. Except "I don't don't pay no attention" to those who joined after the beginning of the GWOT, since so many of them seem, to the casual observer, to be more here for social or political reasons than for boats. I think 9/11/01 was some kind of cut off date. Even the Oyster was rational prior to that date. And then there's a limit to the number of internet headjobs even an offshore sailor wants to witness. My opinion- feel free to state your own.

As a member that joined in '03 and therefore not worthy of membership,I'll have my say anyway.I dont own a wooden boat yet,but plan to build one as soon as possible. We thought this summer would be our summer for our build but life got in the way, as it does for all from time to time.I find chatting with most people in here enlightening, and generally worth the time.If I dont care for a thread I skip it and go on to others, theres plenty to go around. As far as someones "worth" to the forum, how ,,exactly do you place a value on a person ?Their worth is based on if they own a boat or if they want to learn about boats before they build? Your only worthy if you can give advice from your knowledge? If so, who exactly are you giving advice TOO if all are equal as far as knowledge goes?

Geeman- Join dates per se mean nothing. I lurked for 3 years before I was game to contribute- such was the erudition then. Yet there have always been wankers present. There are amateurs here who see fit to pass judgement on professionals of international standard, and are applauded by the rank and file as some kind of hero- strange place cyberspace. I've seen threads up in building where retired soldiers pass judgement on the contributions of whole of life boat builders- strange days indeed.

Jamie- I was going to say to your other thread- don't you think you've already done 90% and this would be the last 10%? I think you need to think of it as throwing good money after "good", not throwing good money after bad. I think you ought to get into the woodwork yourself, but that's easy for me to say. Deck cargo of Jarrah sufficient for one sternpost, one horn timber? Except I might have to go around east to pick you up in the west, the roaring forties being fairly prevailing. If that is the case it would be quicker to send John B for you, and pick me up on the way thru. Which would save me the embarrassment of going skipper, given the crew might have me on their ignore list.

As far as the fighting that goes on in the bilge, I have often wondered why the bilge even exists, but every now and again there will be a golden nugget that someone will post and I will say 'wow. Now that was cool'. Not often, mind you, but just enough for me to keep browsing.
