Here's a photo of my first boat-builing project: An 8'dinghy, built from Compumarine plans. The hull is cedar strip, gunwales are mahogany, thwarts are bubinga. Breasthook and transom cap have white pine and mahogany accents.

Rows like a dream with the 7' Shaw & Tenney spruce spoon oars. Supposed to be a yacht tender, but the emphasis is on "tender" when boarding and exiting.

This will probably be my last "stripper". I'd like to try a traditional lapstrake boat next. Maybe a Melonseed. smile.gif

Very nice! I need to construct a dinghy too. Do you have a picture of the melon seed to share? thanks

Compunarine plans: web page (http://www.compumarine.com)

I think my dink weighs about 45lb. I can easily carry it by balancing the midships thwart accross my shoulders. One woman at the yacht club said she liked my "hat".
