Does anyone know where to get plans to build models? Something on the order of Haven 12 1/2 or Cats Paw. Don't want kits just plans.
Thanks

Wooden Boat, but instead of just building the kit, you kit bash it .
Take out the trashy stuff replace with good wood. But THE MAIN ADVANTAGE IS (here is the big secret), you get most of the hardware and don't have to spend time ordering and waiting for it from 7 different suppliers. I know because I have built many models.
You can try Floating Drydock.
Some contemporary ones are not available.
Just order study plans for real boats and build your model.
For a 12.5 ft. boat i would make the scale 2:1 =25inch model
If it is too small it goes into pretend world too far and takes too much energy to view. 25 inches is a nice size and be easy to view and get model hardware for it.
Below is the current model I am working on.
I am rigging it now.

There's a also one on the Lobster boat and I think there are others.
Good plans, lots of photos and step-bystep instructions. If you can't find it new, ebay and abebooks.com have them.

I have built some models from full sized plans , and they all worked out very well. If you want more information on these, you can contact me . A very good model to build is Ted Geary's Flattie, an 18' racing boat. You can get the information out of Edwin Monk's book on Building Small Wooden Boats. This boat is easy to build, and is quite FAST. I built it as a 40" model. I don't think you should build it any smaller than 36". I did make some changes, like the centerboard is made from 1/4" steel. I can tell you all about it if you decide to build this one. I am working on one from Howard Chapelle's Boat Building Book, Plate 25 ,and 26, the Hampton Flattie. I have built others as well, like Super Sunray( V bottom, a wonderfull model . You would love this one. I can email you a pictures if you would like.)

Thanks for the info. Never thought of using study plans or using the plans and fitting from a kit.
