Wilson Boynton, a local sailor who goes out most days each week in his 20' sailboat with her distinctive tanbark gaff-topsail, two-jib rig went missing earlier today in clear mild conditions. He was last seen aboard the boat as she sailed out of the harbor at 10:45 AM. At about 2 PM, as we were leaving the harbor, his boat was reported as unmanned about two miles away between Squirrel Island and Cape Newagen.
The Coast Guard, SeaTow, party boats, private yachts, lobster boats and a CG helicopter spent the afternoon conducting a search (under the CG helicopter pilot's instructions). The fog has come in now and the search has been interrupted.
So sad, but we are still hoping for good news.
Good luck to him, always something to worry about.

Not good at all. Let's all hope and pray for the best.

What is the water temperature right now?
We had a case down here this summer where some fishermen were missing for two days before they were picked up. It can happen.

Keep us posted and we'll keep him and his family in thoughts and prayers...

We're praying for him, hope he made it to an island. Maine water is much too cold for long immersion survival anytime of the year.

The search was called off at 8am on Monday after eighteen hours. Shoreline searches are underway now. A bit more info at http://www.wcsh6.com/news/article.aspx?storyid=41780
A friend of mine who worked with me at The Apprenticeshop is now in my wife's book group. She and her husband bought a local restaurant from Wilson (Bill) Boynton years ago. She told my wife last night that she came across Bill's wife parked by the side of the road in a dazed and disoriented state. She couldn't figure out "where Bill had gone to" and didn't know her way around the town she'd lived in for years. More friends came to help her.
So sad.
