So Im wondering... after youve gone what would you like to be best remembered for?
Me? I want everyone to remember me with a smile... the bloke that loved to laugh take the phiss and enjoyed life... even if I never attain the dreams then as the bloke that had them!! lived a full and rich life loved everyone he met and adored his wife and family above all things
thats my legacy... Enjoy life smile laugh and take each day for things it can give you never hold onto the negatives ALWAYS look for the possitive... a right cheeky buggar with the sheilas and a good bloke to have by your side in a blue
So what would you like to be best remembered for and as?

Shane will be 'round, if he's like any Aussies of my acquaintance. Too damned tough to die.
My wife's Australian relatives are legendary. Her Great Aunt Agnes just turned 105; chipper as hell. Grandma's 96, and sharper than any of us.
Shane will easily outpace them both.

My mother's family seem to last well into their 90's for the last several generations; the men in my dad's family drop over at about 65, while the women seem to plug along as determined matriarchs into at least their 80's. I figure I've got a pretty good chance to last, so long as I avoid cancer and don't have to teach too many more teenagers to drive.
When my step-brother died a few months ago, they had a rip-roaring Irish wake. Getting blasted, I think, was a perfectly reasonable response to his death. I just hope when I go someone will lift a glass of good rye for me, and have some good stories to tell.

When I go, few people will know.
I know I have to rewrite my will.
But, I ain't upset, nor am I pissed.
I've had a reality check and
I know the drill.
What I leave behind is the obvious thrill.
Will they take an old classic
That will barely float?
You bet you're llife as
Uncas is still a boat.
And regarding the rest,
They will do their their best,
And will spend some cash for a huge bash.
I can only hope it will be a fest and
One I hope will remembered and not in jest.
Perhaps I'll be remembered for being just a old bloke
Who has few interests unless its a boat.
They will put what's left, if there is any.
Into a boat that does float.
And keep him alive without spending their own penny
As he is worth saving no one can argue.
He is a boat that would not get by you.
I hope Uncas will continue to float
In the years to come
As he is one of a kind and
Was very hard to find.
Needless to say that
this is between you and me
As I already know where I will be.
And nothing I do will change what will happen.
I can only hope that others to see
A boat one thought would never be
And when I am gone,
I hope there still will be a boat
That remembers me
From those days ,many days, of being afloat.

It grieves me to realize there's more I wish folks wouldn't remember about me than those things I wish they would.

I dunno, but over the course of the weekend both my kids called me "middle-aged." Middle Aged - hell!! I figure I'm only in my extremely late 20's, and plan to haunt them for at least another 50-60 years.

Hey Shane! I'm a young tot based on the number of birthdays my relatives remember. If ya keep track, I'm only ten.
Nah...us old farts live forever....
The poem...well, playing a bit but I was a wee tad serious.
If nothing else, I don't ecpect much...saves on the complaining department. Too realistic for that.

My Dad was the one usually tapped to make arrangements and sort things out on both sides of the family. He let me in on little secret of his when I got to be around 12 or so. He told me that the first thing he did was to find out how much money the person had, the second thing was to see how much of it he could spend on the funeral...the best casket, nices headstone, best regarded caterer....you get the idea. His logic was that if he could manage to spend most of the money, the relatives couldn't fight over it....Mostly, it worked.

Nah...that is the old fashioned way.
I remember talking to my sister-in-law last year. Told her up front that her daughter was shall I say, well taken care of in my will.
She asked me why her son was not included. I responded by saying, Why should he be. I have not heard from him in years!
Within two weeks, I gotta call out of the blue from yup, my nephew. I can still hear the phone lines burning when his mother called him. Kinda wish I could have been a fly on the wall..
Hey the bottom line is, I know what to expect. I can live with it. I even find it funny ( perhaps sad ) at times.
There are a lot of worthy organizations to donate to.
Then again, I'm such a tight wad, scrooge etc., I'll outlive them all.

Funny how that works, isn't it? My maternal Grandmother lived with us for the last 10 or so years of her life, the last year and a half with lung cancer. Mom stayed in regular touch with her Sister In-Law and her niece and nephew, none of whom visted her after her diagnosis "because it would be too upsetting". The rest of us were there with her when she passed, and I can assure you...it ain't about stuff. It really puts the toadying and favor currying into perspective for you.
