I had dream last night about racing in a one-design regatta on the Solent or somewhere in the English Channel where there's lots of tide, crowds of boats and tricky and unfamiliar launching facilities. I wasn't sailing well, was getting confused and finishing poorly or not at all in the regatta races.
Apparently I complained about it here because the next morning there were 'Burma Shave'-type signs all around the launch park and along the waterfront suggesting that 'rbgarr' ease up with his postings on the WBForum. In the dream I was pretty embarrassed.
Ya think my subconscious is telling me something? :o

That wasn't a dream, that was a nightmare. :)
I probably do spend too much time on the forum especially after being away since April. Just a lot of catching up to do. Then again, after a few weeks spouting forth various words of wisdom, my posts should slow down.
It's currently keeping me from getting rid of the tree limb ( actually I'm borrowing a saw from my neighbor. ) etc.

Everyone makes lists:
There is a "to do " list that goes on for pages... and then there is the "fun list " which is extremely short. The forum is on the " fun list." I look at both and say, what the heck. Forget the lengthy, five page "to do" list. I can do those things tomorrow or whenever.
The forum is immediate gratification....
Anyway, its raining...

I find myself "dropping in for a moment " to check the BIlge or MBR forae and finding that five minutes later it's actually five hours later.
We seem to have developed a time compressor here!
All proof of the old adage, "Fun times when you're having a good fly".

Was informed by wife that I spend too much time at the keyboard last night as we drove home from work.Of course I stupidly brought up her time spend watching reruns of reruns of reruns,,,,,,,,Will probably get the silent treatment as we go about our "day off catch up" routine today.Makes for a very long day LOL
Guilty. The place is addictive.

I think we need web cams in the shop. Like Norm on Yankee Workshop has. Then we wouldnt have to type, just yell at each other.:D

Well, staying out of the bilge is my one element of self-control on this forum. Otherwise I check it when I get up, on and off all day at work, and in the evenings -- far too much time and far too often!

I confess, I only read it at work. But it does help with boat repair. I wish I'd read some stuff sooner, it would have made refastening easier. I'd say that if you're spending time on the net when you could be sailing, boatbuilding, or making love, then you have a problem.

The phone rings and it is someone I'd actually like to speak with. It's too humiliating to explain that I'm on this site (again) so instead, we speak as I idly "thumb" the site. The person at the other end of the phone, without knowing what I'm up to but sensing that I'm disengaged from the conversation, suggests that if I'm busy, we can chat later. Only there is no later. What a time sump. I'm starting to realize I need to limit my activity here, but it's easy to fritter a few hours away aimlessly.
And, as Vince says, I really only stopped by for a minute or two to see what was new.
And then there's the bilge.

I do know what you mean. Been doing online forums since '94. It can be addictive. ...typing posts takes me a long time...gratifying my ever-needy ego is not worth starving the projects which are being neglected.

Ya...check in with the morning coffee in hand...then again at work (a couple of times...or more), and then we I get home, after dinner, mid evening...before bed.
Should I be worried? Is there a 12 step program I can sign up for?

Yesterday while I was out sailing, A funny thing happened out by West Point, two canoe paddlers were looking at Tidbit as I made a tack across the river and past them. One paddler cups his hands and calls out JOE !!! I yell back yes, He Yells back Joe ( Cold Spring on Hudson ) !!! I say yea, now he does not look familiar. He says and that must be Tidbit. I say Yea. he says; I know cause I read The WoodenBoat Forum I don't post much though but I do read your stories. He then turns to his buddy in that " Hey see thats the guy I told you it was " I bid them adieu and sail on.
In hind site I felt kinda embarrassed for all the crap I post in the bilge, and exactly how much I share with my so called on line friends. But in reality it's not as small of a community as we think. Aside from the few hundred who frequently post on this forum this forum is read by ten's of thousands of people. Including the two guys I met on the river yesterday. If you think about it long enough it can kinda creep you out, and make you think twice about how much you share. But naaaaaa I keep posting :)

First thing in the morning. At around 10 with my second coffee. Sometimes at noon. Definately at around 5. After supper of course. And just before I crash at midnight. I tell my wife it's a "safety-related" activity because I learn a lot. Anything safety related is good, right?

I've got my Forum time down to a managable 3 - 5 mins or so per day... just plowing through the post titles looking for something interesting and/or educational.
I think I would spend more time reading more posts if some members didn't feel compelled to reply to just about every post. There's a lot of good material here but when some feel that they need to post replies to x number of posts per day, regardless of their knowledge or experience with the subject, it becomes much tougher to weed through to the real stuff.

Well, at least I don't reply to my own posts one after another.. Yup, I respond but ya don't see ten posts in a row just to keep the thread alive. :)
That is a difference.
Bottom line: I really don't care that much. I'll be gone in a few months anyway. If I post, well, I post. I don't have to worry. There are people out there who will keep track of every single one. :)
