Last week my restored Lyman was entered in a boat show and went thru her first judging. I lost points because the light switch on the dashboard was a "modern" one. It was just a simple marine grade push-pull switch from West Marine.

The judge said there are "antique" switches available but didn't know where. Anyone know where I can find a 1950's period switch?

Thanks...

maybe you don't need the switch....many of the same knobs have either 1/8th inch shafts or 1/4 inch shafts and a single setscrew.....use the old knob with the modern switch......depending on the year, most of those switches were off the shelf to start with...if you have a photo of the original switch.........maybe we could find one....

The old switches were likely Cole Hersee -- the Cole knobs will not fit the West Marine switches. Or, send me an email -- I'm sure I have some Cole Hersee switches around.

if they are Cole Hersee they are likely available from McMaster-Carr...

I bought some Cole Hersee from Jamestown Distributors

...I looked at my Jamestown catalog and a Southern Crown one as well and the switches look just like the one I have, except my knob is plastic while the Cole Hersee's are plated brass.

I have a similar looking switch on my other (newer fiberglass) boat and the knobs are interchangable. Anyone know if merely switching these would put me into compliance?
