Found this on eBay, needs a some new planks on the bottom.

There is another one a lot like it, but not in need of restoration.

Anybody have an opinion?

Well, I wouldn't buy a boat "sight unseen." But, assuming it is close enough to go look at and it's in decent shape and you want it, well, why not. Consider it a project, though. Replacing lapstrake planking can be a real bugger. You start out and the next thing you know, you're replanking the whole shebang!

Uneducated guess here, but it looks to me like you're looking at a complete rebuild of the bones of the hull. You might be able to save some of the planks from above the waterline, but I can't see repairing those rotted frames, and the wood in the middle of the bottom (please pardon lack of boatpart nomenclature), especially aft of the CB trunk, are shot.

Yes, the more I look at them, the more I think that I'd have more fun and have a better boat at the end of it all if I just built Bruce Taylor's "Blackfly".

They seem to be about the same size and function, and I don't think I'd really save any time by trying to start with a repair job.
