This ebay seller is annoying me by listing only one of a pair (there's another one pictured) of these cleats. I guess they are waiting to see how much one brings and then try to squeeze the price up on the second.

Check the prices at R&W Rope and/or other Davey resellers -- often these go for more than new prices. My experience with a small brass tube cleat is that they chew up soft line badly -- I've had to use really strong line designed to replace wire rigging.

My, what a healthy sour-grapes attitude I have! ;0 )

I recollect that there are some clamcleats which have the same idea but function well.

Rope Warehouse has the Davey & Co. cleats for approximately $30.00 in gunmetal, depending on the size. They offer a small bronze tube for less than $10.00, but it is not handed and is only made for six mm line.

So I guess that if the ones on Ebay are actually bronze they are no longer produced by Davey.

I was under the impression that the larger Davey tube cleats were bronze, and the smaller 6mm one was brass -- part of the cost difference. I think the catalog description may be a bit unclear...

...I think that 'gunmetal' is the finish on the bronze, not some other bad metal-material like 'potmetal'.

Davey tube cleats and other bronze hardware items are available from the ships store at the Wooden Boat Foundation in Port Townsend.
