My wife Donna and I, and our two dogs Storm and Zephyr have just returned from a month long cruise to the south coast of Newfoundland aboard our 40' ketch "Malolo".
We sailed from our home near Lunenburg, NS directly to the French island of St Pierre, just off the coast of Newfoundland. That's a distance of about 370nm and took us just under 3 days. We then hopped over to Fortune, Newfoundland, cruised the south coast from east to west and returned home from Rose Blanche, another 320nm journey.
All I can say is that this has to be among the finest cruising grounds anywhere. The geography is incredible and the people are the friendliest you could meet. And to show up in an old wooden boat, well, you're a hero (although the local fishermen couldn't understand why I wasn't planning on fiberglassing the hull)! We're already planning next year's trip.
A summary of our trip, from e-mails sent along the way is here (http://malolo.ca/shipslog/)
Photos, lots of photos :), are here (http://malolo.ca/gallery)
Hope you enjoy.
