Its been a while, but my Seed, to be named "Non-Billable Time" is coming along slowly but surely. I thought I'd share as I've been reading a little bit more interest here in this beautiful little boat. I have yet to clean up some epoxy, etc., install the daggerboard trunk, etc.

I'm toying of installing a bulkhead to keep items like anchors, etc. from sliding out.

The pup is a Boston Terrier, "Rocky". Proper name: "Rock and Roll Star". He's a purebread, but an exception to the breed std. because he's brown and white as opposed to black and white. The wife like the color better.

I can't make up my mind about the deck. I'm either going with Okoume, Aquatek, Baltek, or Baltek with a vertical grain Douglas Fir, etc. I have settled on Burgandy below the waterline, with an off - white highlight stripe between the burgandy and the brightwork. The deck might be covered with 10 oz cloth, then filled a little with epoxy to get a textured deck, then painted off white. Anyway, any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

The framing is primarily western red cedar as per Barto's plans, with some Ash mixed in where appropriate.

Its not even done, and I love this boat.

I'll welcome all comments (good and bad) and all suggestions. God knows they've been helpful already.

Thanks everyone.

If I did not already have a small sailboat Brian I would build one of these. Just beautiful! Nice dog too.

Nice craftsmanship! It would be hard to find a boat with sweeter lines.

looks from here like you do good work. Ah, yes, a melonseed. I'm torn between it and a peapod, the last boat Lynn dreamed of building. Both maybe. Except I gotta be out of the boat building business.

I'm looking forward to seeing progress pictures. Maybe I can survive vicariously.

Nice job, Brian. It's really coming along. A couple of questions for you.

Were the deck supports included in the plans? Or did you design those patterns? What wood did you use for the coaming? Did you steam it to bend it?

What wood did you use for the rest of the deck framing members?

Steve's pix are nice. But I'd not want such a glossy deck - sun blinding reflections :(
Ply, epoxy, glass makes for a strong stiff deck. Make sure there are NO places where water can get to the ply of course.
Nice boat. I especially admire the wineglass transom's look.

Thanks guys. The glossy deck comment is well taken, and something I had not considered. Excellent point.

Cam - the cockpit framing you see there is 3/4 inch Western Red Cedar. I did not use a steam box to bend it. It had sufficient give to allow the bend given the length of the cockpit.

Later, I'll probably use Mahogany as my "coaming", laid on top of that, and extending above the deck maybe an inch.

The supports were my own design. They were made of some okoume ply scraps I had around the garage.

Thanks again guys.
