Well I thought I would post these two latest photos for those that are interested. I think that if I were to build this boat I would consult with
someone on moving that rear mast. Creates a nightmare for the building of the hatch. It is just barely wide enough.
It is a very beautiful boat I think.

Also for modern marinas I would get rid of that long bowsprit.
What do you think?

Is that similar to Clapham's Minoqua a 36ft non-pareil sharpie? If so, you might want to check out R. Parker's comments about the boat in his Sharpie Book.

great to see a well done model of this one. as you know I've a keen interest in it. What where the inconsistenes you found in the frames.
Alos you mensioned about the main hatch was marginal. How wide is it top and bottom and how close to the edge of the cabin sides dose it come.

ps. looking forward to see how you rig it. I've looked at approx main 250, foresail 180, and spliting the foretraingle up into boom staysail 60 and large outer on roller reefing 120-150.

The main hatch is only about 30 inches wide at the top maybe 32 on actual boat.
The port side will be right up against the cabin side The starboard side
will need very careful planning to allow the hatch to slide and the mast collar may be tight between the hatch and the mast.
The frames 4-7 were too long and the frames 7-T were short.
I suggest that if building the actual boat to leave them all 6 inches long
and then get at eye level to the side of the hull and clamp a batten and mark the correct height of the frames.

What about this rig Zane ?

Hi Donald,
That rig looks OK to me. I came up with similar boom lengths to what you quoted. Just for easy of handling I would like to split that large jib up into 2 so it can be reduced. Keep a large conventinal jib/genoa at the end of the bowsprit and then a smaller boomed staysail for when it gets over 15knts or short handed sailing.

I have the plans for what HC called a 38ft modified sharpie schooner which is actually only 36'8" between perpendiculars. Looks very similar but is wider on the bottom and 9" beam. Stem rabbit is straighter...... Personally I don't think it is as nice a looking. Anyway in profile it's very simalar. The interesting point re the main hatch is that HC has offset the main mast 5" to starboard so the heel of the mainmast comes down the side of the centerboard case. This also gives more space for the Hatch.

Sweet model! The rig, at first glance, looks in balance. However, I would have to see and study the lines and sail plan to make a real evaluation. Other wise it is just an educated guess on my part.

Dear Jay,

The model with the rig on it is not my model. I only posted it to aid in the discussion of the rig for the model I am building which is the 4 photos at the beginning of this thread. Sorry for the confusion Jay.
