I've been diagnosed with arthritis in both shoulders but strenght is good. I think learning how to row more efficiently would help in recovery. I've built a 800 pound dory so I don't know if books on skulling would help that much. Any ideas?

Pete Culler's "Boats, Oars & Rowing" is a wonderful little tome dealing with, mainly, traditional boats and 'clipperized' versions of them. Unfortunately, prices of available copies have gotten out of sight latlely. Rick

It's a great book but I'm looking for more in-depth information on the subject.

I have looked for a book like the one you would like to find and never seen one.

At one time there was a little magazine called Open Water Rowing that covered this topic, but the publisher found that it stopped him from rowing and eventually shut it down. Even the web presence is gone now.

As far as I can tell in the USA most rowing clubs row sliding seat shells, those of us who row actual boats tend to be less formal and don't write things down all that much. In the UK and Finland there are some really big races for real boats and clubs built around them, maybe you can get more useful information from there.

Hi Bart: You might have a look at Edward McNeely's "Skillful Rowing," paperback, available at Amazon. www.amazon.com, & go to "books". See the editorial review. It may be a bit more technical than you need, but the info is there.
