Scheduled for a central line ("port-a-cath") implantation on Thursday morning. Basically, it's a silicone membrane that's implanted just under the skin just below the collar bone and is connected via a tube to the superior vena cava right above the heart. It makes it easier to infuse chemotherapy with less risk of vein damage.
One is "consious sedated" for this. They better do a lot of sedating because I'm VERY VERY VERY consious of this!
ARGH!!!!!!

I was extremely apprehensive about undergoing LASIK last year, but 10 mg of Vallium set me totally at ease... and I actually found the slicing of my eyeball rather interesting :D

When I had my kidney stone out I was concious, theoretically. I remember nothing. Don't sweat it.
And now I have phrases going through my head like "Raiders of the Lost Urk."

I talked to the head tech, and he mentioned IV fentonil (sp?). From what I've heard about this stuff, they could do open-heart surgery and you'd never notice. :D
I guess the alternative is a morphine drip. Sigh.
I STILL DON'T LIKE IT!

It's no wonder you are a cantankerous old sod. I hate doctors and hospitals. If I were being poked and prodded like you are I'd be insufferable.
Good luck, man.
