I'm stuck! I look and look at this old 16 ft sail boat I rescued from a field. It has about 10 3" wide planks to a side(the shear is one piece). The paint is all gone except a little in the waterline crease which is still visible in a few places. And there is no sign of any caulking seam or anything between the hard 7/16 in. plank edges. The plank edge corners are perfectly square and the spaces between have parallel sides. One might think that before the boat was out of the water for almost 50 years, the planks fit together perfectly with nothing in between. No, no fiberglass was used over the exterior hull. Something must account for this??? What further do you need to know? QMBob

What is so strange? Tight Seamed Planking has been done for donkey's years.

High level of skill is what it shows.

TKS- that must be it. The boat has other high skill features as well- it goes. QMBob
