Anyone out there an owner of a Carl Adams boat? His company was Modern Boat works and most of his work was from the 30s & 40s. I have a 1959 and it was one of his last.
Would love to compare notes with other owners.
Thanks.

Sorry to say I don't own one, but the little I know of Carl Adams skiffs are that they are first rate. I have a photo of one about 24' or so that I though was built in '69. I'd love to hear about your skiff & see some pictures.

Here are some examples of his work.

Hello - My husband and I just aquired a Carl Adams boat, which is our first wood boat, and quite a pretty one! We're still trying to find out a bit more about the boat ourselves. We've found a very faded old faxed survey onboard that states she is a 1941 43' Sportfish, double-planked cedar over oak with Monel rivets (??!!), 13' beam and 4' draft. Prospector had partially sunk - the twin Perkins are dead, and the bottom needs much attention, we know she was last hauled about 10 years ago, but is floating now with the assistance of very good bilge pumps. I can e-mail some photos if anyone would like. We aquired the boat in 'as-is' condition, and will be living aboard during most of the work.
We spoke to some older family friends that grew up in Margate New Jersey that do remember his boats - apparently they had a great reputation as being solidly built, but really haven't dug too much else up on Carl Adams, so we're pretty curious ourselves.
Hope this helps, have you found any other owners out there yet?

Sorry to say I haven't come across any more information in the past year since I last posted. I'd like to see some pictures of yours. I've never heard of Monel rivets for hull fastenings before.... interesting.

This is from when we first aquired her. I've never really heard of Monel rivets either. Then again being fiberglass people, we're still learning a LOT about wooden boats :)
