I'm a paying member of clubphoto and this is where I host all my images. Here lately I've not been able to post my photos here. Here is an example of how the properties are on their images now.

http://img.clubphoto.com/ocelot/album/item/view?id=3824425;position=5;size=600;jive=

Before they always ended in .jpg and it was not a problem to post. If sent an e-mail to clubphoto and told them that if I couldn't hot link photos that I would take my buisness elswhere.

Any suggestions or clues?

Yes, but when I realised that that didn't work and you probably tried it beforehand, I felt stupid believing I was smarter than you and deleted my message.

Can't get it to work.
And this board does not allow real html.

My guess is that this might well be very intentional on their part and exactly designed to prevent people from doing what you want to do. They want you to display photos on their site so that people who see your photos will order prints from Club Photo and in general see Club Photo's promotional material and give them more business.

If that is the case I will go elsewhere.

One thing that I liked about clubphoto was that it gave you preview photo that was the right size for posting on boards or you could link to a bigger photo. These others seem to give you just the full size option. Photo bucket does allow you to downsize the photo, but it downsizes the orginal.

These last three are from atpic and they give you the option of 3 file sizes, sorry to blow up the thread, but I wanted to test all three sizes.

Finally heard from clubphoto

We apologize for any inconvenience to you. We are aware of the issue and are currently looking into rectifying this as quickly as possible. Here are a few
tips that may help resolve the issue for you. Basic members are not allowed the privilege of deep linking. In order to be able to deep link you must have a
gold or platinum membership. If you are linking to an album with a password or if the image is duplicated in several of your albums this could cause the link to fail. If you are a premium member linking to a singularly located image in a non-password protected album and cannot view the link please send the URL to the broken image so we may look into this matter further.

I'm a premium user and the albums are not password protected. I will send them some links and see what they say. In the meantime I will keep looking at other services.

Take the tour: http://www.flickr.com/learn_more.gne

Free or Pro account. The prod account is $25 per year, cheaper in bulk.

No disk quota. No bandwith quota. No issues with hot-linking. The only throttle is upload. Pro accounts are throttled at 2gb worth of pictures uploaded per month (good luck reaching that :D). The free acount is something less. The biggest difference between the pro account and the free account is

1. 2gb/month upload throttle v. less
2. pro accounts save the original image as well as the resized images.
3. free accounts will only show a limited number of pictures in your photostream -- older photos rotate out of the stream. The older photos, are still there, you can get to them only by knowing the URL for them.

If you have a blog, you can post images to the blog directly from Flickr. You can order prints from your Flickr pictures. They can be be mailed to you, or you can have them printed at a Target Store Near You (actually cheaper than the mail option). You can have Flickr burn your photos on DVD for you as well. You can order US postal stamps with your pictures on them as well.

[edited to add: Flickr also does automatic resizing, all the way from tiny thumbnails up to whatever humungous image size you uploaded. Flickr also auto-rotates the image, if you camera supplies EXIF data regarding camera orientation -- which edge of the image is "down" -- as some do]

I looked at Flickr and I couldn't get a test image to link.Flickr gives you control over licensing (creative commons license types) and linkability.

Try some of my photos: http://www.flickr.com/photos/handforged/sets/905293/

You need to

1. go to the photo's page: http://www.flickr.com/photos/handforged/41265710/in/set-905293/

2. Click on "All Sizes" in the menu over the picture

3. Select a size. I picked "medium": http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=41265710&size=m&context=set-905293

4. Scoll down below the picture and you should see (if you're the picture's owner) two things. the first is an HTML snippet to past in a web page and the second is the URL of the picture at the specified size. Add that to one of these posts:

http://static.flickr.com/30/41265710_8eff83a868.jpg

And you should be good to go:

http://static.flickr.com/30/41265710_8eff83a868.jpg

I see that flickr want you to provide a back link is using the picture on another web site (damned Yahoo! types -- they now own Flickr).
