My wife, and girlfriend are planning a 6 day get away.... Initial thoughts are Puerto Rico, or "Anywhere where 2 girls can go, be safe, have fun, and no passport is required....." Any ideas? (No Joe, they already went to Mexico) Out west has been considered.... "Two girls ready to have a good time, but a safe good time" ..."Stop typing everything I say".... I think they ought to go to Singapore.... "We're just girls looking to have fun!" "Stop typing every goddam thing I say DAMMIT!"

I thought your wife and your girlfriend were never supposed to meet. That's how the toast goes, anyhow.
Quebec is nice. :)

Not positive but I think you have to have a passport whenever you leave the country now. Exception being Canada and Mexico.

This thread screams for a smart-ass answer, but since those have largely been covered, I'll add this:

Katey and her sister went to Puerto Rico a few years ago in March. They had a good time, got horribly sunburnt while snorkeling, and found there was a distinct lack of direction signs or street signs as they tried to navigate. But I wouldn't recommend it in, say, September.

Maybe BruinW can comment on what Alaska is like in the fall. It seems like there should be an interesting fall salmon run, the usual glaciers, etc.

Resort type stuff? Freeport Bahamas is actually OK if they're just looking to park it on the beach during the day (or go snorkeling, scuba diving, Hobie sailing) and bar hopping at night (or just nice restaurants, of course).

There's little better than Bermuda, I think. It's as safe as can be, aside from the scooters, British clean, and it's touristy enough that a couple of tourists won't be bored.

Of course... you've got friends on a certain island in a certain tropical sea...

Oh, scratch what I just wrote... "whereno passport is required."

I'm thinking Florida. Pensacola Beach is a nice place to relax. The beaches are vacant compared to the crappy mid-atlantic beaches around here or in more popular Florida destinations south - you can go to some very vacant spots where you will be the only ones around in eyesight. The water is warm enough to spend the entire day swimming. The Oriskany was just sunk 2 months ago and is an awesome dive. There are plenty of night spots around the beach areas, and there are things to do during the day.

Tourists are to be avoided if at all possible. Carter has less patience than I do with them...
Alaska was a suggestion I made too, Dan. The response was "I've already done that." (Silly me.....)

Well then, it may need a passport. I'd think Iceland or the Faroe Islands might be interesting to see.

Been going there every year since 1967. Fly directly from Bradley to San Juan or better yet, directly from Newark to Aguadilla which is on the west end of the island where you want to be anyway. Rent a car and check the internet for a rental. The Rincon area has nice beaches and also Cabo Rojo area.

Lots of history in a beautiful place. Not a big step for new travelers because the money is the same, the stores are familiar, and most people speak good English. You'll love it. Jim

Having been snowed on in Alaska a few days before Labor Day, I can say that fall comes EARLY there, and no I was not up on top of some big mountain. I was up at about 2500' in the Alaska Range west of Anchorage.

I've heard lots of good things about Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. My cousin and her partner went there a couple of years ago and had a very relaxing vacation.

I'm not sure how soon they are planning to take this vacation, but fall is also a nice time to visit the SW desert -- as in places like Bryce and Zion National Parks, not to mention the Grand Canyon.

I'll bet two women would like to lie on a sandy beach taking in the sun and being politely oogled by an appreciative audience. This suggests a caribbean island, which Carter at least has already done, Hawaii (kind of really hot this time of year) or some place more prosaic like San Diego (ditto). Sandy Eggo has Dave Fleming too - I'm sure he'd love to meet two atttractive ladies. ;)

On the other hand, if they're less sun worshippers and more outdoorswomen, the San Juan Islands in Puget Sound have a lot to offer. Nice people, great scenery, good eats, boating and wildlife sightings, including killer whales. A day trip over to Victoria, BC Canada for an english high tea might be just their...uh... cup of tea! :D
