Has anyone built or is in the process of building one of William Gardens Tom Cat?

I have the book and I just ordered woodenboat issue # 176 to get more details. (along with my tickets to the wb show, can't wait)

there were lots of threads about people interested in builiding one but I can't find anything about built ones.

I bought the plans right after they came out. With Mr. Garden's blessing, I scaled it up to an 18'er. I only have the molds set up and the transom, stem, inner keel(apron) and centerboard made. I really don't have room in my garage to plank up the hull, so I'm working on as many "sub-assembly's" as possible. The plans are fine if you have some previous building experience- all the vital info is there, but a lot of general boat building practices will need to be gleaned elsewhere. As for the book, it's cute and light reading- lots of general stuff about setting your workshop, etc. but not much more help than the plans themselves.

Greg
How did you increase the width of the hull or just the length?

I too, have the plans and the book. I am just finishing off building a garage where I could build it. First have to finish off the basement and the backyard though. Oh yea, there's a three month old baby that seems to demand a lot of my time. Building the boat is definitely on the to do list but seems to have moved down a notch or two.

I think the illustrations in the book are great too.

I multiplied all the offset table dimensions by 1.375 - this results in a hull that is 17'-9" long, by 8'-4" beam. I worked this out starting with the beam- I wanted the largest possible hull, and still be legally trailerable (8'-6"max) See the earlier post below, "Larger Tomcat"

Thanks guys.

Todd know what you mean about house jobs. SWMBO is also starting to talk little ones too, so if I Don't start now I probably never will.
