All were shot with a 50mm lens on a 35mm camera. They are shown full frame with no cropping.

Glad you like them Phil,
Here's a few more for you. Sorry about the poor quality. They are scanned from prints. These are also shot with a 50mm. In fact that's the longest lens I ever used shooting air to air. Once in awhile I shifted to a 35 or 28 when shooting the Swifts.
At about 12,500 ft

Too close. 1946 145HP Globe.

210HP Temco. Loops from level cruise flight.

1946 85HP Globe. Won Most Original award at Oshkosh one year.

125HP Temco. Don't recall the year.

145HP Globe. Shadow of 172HP cast on wing and fuselage. Pretty close.

I like shooting close. I photographed a P-51 from a newer Cessna 310. Even through the David Clarks I could here the Merlin over the Cessna's engines. Pretty cool.

That looks like a stock cowling on the first photo... and if so, how long did it take to achieve 12,500? :D

Yeah that is a stock cowl. I don't know how long it took to get up there. We were taking photos most of the way up. the nose up attitude is due to trying to keep the thing flying. I was in the 172HP and with it's fule injected 210HP it didn't have as much trouble.
Needless to say we didn't stay up there more than about 5 minutes. We were flying VFR just north of what was the TCA for MSP. We didn't want to get anyone too worked up.

Many a summer day I struggled to get my Beech C23 to cool, pleasant air. Once there, visibility was as nice as the temp.
Quite a change when I upgraded to the Bonanza. Usually by myself, I leveled at eleven to twelve grand in mere minutes... smooth, cool and comfortable.
One rare clear summer day we were goofing off in my pal's C-172 and decided we'd find an altitude where the high-rise buildings in Atlanta would be visible from western NC. Took us about 40 minutes, but at around 8'600 we saw the buildings.
