going to be transporting my boat from LI, NY to Bar Harbor, Maine to be restored. Have been getting quotes back from companies and so far the cheapest is from Specialty Transport Inc. I have shipped cars before and have gone with the lowest quote and have regreted it after receiving my car. Does anyone have any experiance with this company or know anyone who has used them.

Or does anyone have someone they would reccomend for this move.

The boat being moved is a Luders 24.

You might want to check Independent Boat Haulers, Eliot, Me (207) 439-8871. They are the best around here and don't have a problem with wooden boats. ;)

two boat truckers i've found OK:
Barden's Boatyard, Marion, Ma
Brownell, Mattapoisett, MA

You might also ask the person who's going to work on the boat.

I've used Malcolm Pettegrew in Southwest Harbor many times.(207)244 3514
There are two Luders 24's in Castine Maine. I put a new keel, part of stem and attendant planking in "Storm " last year. Brooklin Boat yard completely restored the other one. I assume Jim Elk will be working on yours, and am curious about any structural problems you've encountered. Good luck.

I have used this company on a few occasions with very good results.

http://www.jouleyacht.com/index.php

They are one of the largest yacht transporters in the world and probably have a truck near you to accomodate your schedule.

Good folks who are not afraid of wooden boats. (Which seems to be more than could be said for Brownells..., sorry Jim). Their number is on the side of the cab, ask for Doc or Buck.

Good luck!

I Used A Local Boat Hauler A Few Years Ago, A Guy On The South Shore. He Gave Me A Good Price And Did A Good Job. I'll Try To Remember His Name.

DLW, I have a regular customer with a 36 foot cold moulded sportfisherman that I built several years ago. Pettegrew has transported this boat from Long Island to my shop in Maine several times.

you're right they called me back and told me they could do it after all - however they were 1k more than the transporter Jim reccommended.

What about a relay?

Frank Pinder, at Kentech Marine, in CHestertown, MD... He's south of there, but only by a few hours. He's honest, careful, and not afraid of wood boats, though he understands the necessary precautions.

He's moved Rarus twice, as well as our previous project boat twice. Everyone else refused to haul the project from southern Virginia to mid-Maryland. Frank didn't hesitate, and didn't mind my watching and asking some questions so long as I stayed, generally, out of the way. A good guy. I believe Noah had him bring his (noah's) Hinckley to VT.

Yes, that's exactly what I mean. Sometimes one has to be a bit creative, but maybe this isn't one of them, and you will (or, perhaps, if I read all the above correctly, have) find someone to do the whole route.

Hi,
I can't offer advice on who to use, but definitely do not use A&B marine trucking from Annapolis. When I moved Jenny Norman from MD to ME they were an absolute nightmare to deal with. My blood pressure is going up right now just thinking about it.

Who did you settle on, if I may ask?

Northeast Boat Hauling, spoke with Steph. 3200for a round trip transport from Long Island to Bar Harbor, Maine. The rig (trailer and truck) they are using for my boat is actually not shown on their website, they just ordered it, and will be taking delivery first week of sept.
