Rather dated, but some might still find interest. This ws my families (parents) boat in 1960. Huricane Donna damage.

That shows the repairablilty of wooden boats when good craftsmen are involved Nice work.. :D

A reading of Alan Vaitsis- Repairing Fiberglass Boats, is also recomended.

Ned,

Is that one of the Pedersons in Keyport, NJ doing the repairs? Where was she built? I like the wide sheer strake. Was that all one plank or was it built up carvel fashion?

Great little cruiser. I just noticed her name; it was the same as my first sailboat.

Beautiful series of photos. Brings back a lot of boatyard memories.

Russ, She was build by Andy Ulrichsen in 1951, all Jersey white cedar. I believe the forward third or so of the shear strake was of two planks (basically carvel as you mention). The work was done at Mihm's boat yard in Monmouth Beach (where she was winter stored), back then you had to drive a dirt road throught the salt marsh to get there (that was long before anyone ever thought of "Channel Club" ;) ) At that time Mihm's would have been much like Beaton's of 30-40 years ago, but on a slightly larger scale. They replaced all full length planks (no additional butts) & when they were done there was no way to tell anything had ever happened. She was a real nice skiff, lots of varnished mahogany & teak. My family had her for eleven years.

If you had access to the mould you might be able to do it ... just make the damaged section and fit it in.

OK, so you can with fiberglass, ;) (Actually, been there, done it. but its not as fun or satisfying.)

nedL, after I wrote that I then went outside and deliberately slammed my finger on the car door ... it was quicker than saying one hundred and fifty Hail Maries.
