I have a 35'mahogany planked sailboat hull that the previous owner has heavily used a product called slick seam(?) over the cotton caulking below the water line. I found the caulking was really not done correctly and I'm preparing to take it out and redo it, but I'm at a loss on how to clean off all this seam slick. My oncern is some will remain undetected or get sanded into the wood causing an adhesion problem with the new bottom paint. Pleaase help. JD Brown

It doesn't seem to be a problemwith bottom paint. It scrapes off easily with a sharp scraper. I seem to remember it disolves in mineral spirits, but I'm not sure.

Slick Seam should not be used as a permanent underwater seam compound. It is usually used to temporarily seal a dried up bottom when it returns to the water.

If the previous owner made the mistake of using Slick Seam as the sole seam compound, like you, I would be dubious of the caulking job too.

You should not have a problem with clean-up/adhesion.
