The Poisonous Political Troll Tendency.

Here are three examples of an ugly trend.

somebody brought up Janet Reno (http://www.woodenboat-ubb.com/vbulletin/upload/showthread.php?t=52436)
The only thing these sand niggers understand is force (http://www.woodenboat-ubb.com/vbulletin/upload/showthread.php?t=52476)
Why did the Dixicrats become Republicans? (http://www.woodenboat-ubb.com/vbulletin/upload/showthread.php?t=52496)

Qui Gagne?

And yes, I know that any one of these might be considered "An Interesting Historical Question", had it been raised in a senior common room.

How do you figure?

Sand niggers was a recent quote. Janet Reno is old stuff but the original post is almost entirely a quote. Dixiecrats is a carefully constructed historical question. What makes any of them a "poisonous troll"?

Intent.

First of all, you are, of course, presuming that war is nothing more than the continuation of politics by other means. And yet in ordinary politics, few people are killed, and few societies are torn to bits.

And then you presume to understand intent - the posting of controversial items is intended as a troll. No honest outrage can exist.

It seems this very thread is an attempt to sow discord.

I thought a troll was someone who argued but makes no attempt at discourse?

Seems like some threads are magnets for people to vent their frustration about some things while other threads about some real issues go begging.

One of the things I've noticed is that people on the forum somehow consider themselves to be a representative slice of America when nothing could be further from the truth. If nothing else, the level of affluence is generally quite higher.

Agreed. But would any of us really want to live in a world where no one felt passionate about anything?

I'd prefer that people be passionate about the right things.

Your effluvium may be higher but I'm poor as a church-mouse
