I'm playing around with a housing bowsprit too but I have a different set of problems in that I have a samson post not bitts. And a hatch in the way. So I'm constructing mine to swivel at the gammon iron. It doesn't need much at all, perhaps 10 degrees and the sprit can run in beside everything.
experimenting.

my gammon iron is bronze and primarily has a single bolt through the stem for its fastening. Where it exits the stem its mostly covered by the fitting for the dolphin striker.

The base plate for the dolphin striker is held on by 4 screws. Amazing how it just sits there. Under compression and no shear I guess so it doesn't require much fastening. Sat there fine for the last 90 years or so anyway.
The gammon iron is bedded in red lead on a light cloth. timber is goooood.
