Hi All,
I am about to plank a 23-foot marblehead dory. Gardner writes that you should use a 1 1/8 inch wide lap for the strakes for a 5/8 inch plank. Could anyone tell me how wide the lap should be for a 3/4 inch plank? I'm guessing 1 1/2 inches.

I'm building her (my first attempt) from lines taken by Chapelle in 1939 of a "Swamscot" Dory. I'm a Revolutionary War Reenactor so she'll be rigged out 18th Century for sail and rowing. She'll also have a swivel gun mounted in the bow.
All I have to do now is build it.

Correction: I meant to write that the lines were taken from an Annisquam Dory in Massachusetts in 1939. Way to many knuckles in a swamscott for my novice abilities ;)

Actually, during our events, these boats run largely on rum, ale, and occasionally wind.
