Just for giggles:
This was an area over 5" wide where the wood joining the ballast keel to the false keel above and stem forward was deteriorated or missing. One of the first jobs James did when he came aboard last October was to make a beautiful repair to the false keel when it was off the boat and upside down on sawhorses. Unfortunately, he tapered the scarf to what he had and didn't compare the measurement to where it fit to the ballast keel. When the false keel was flipped over, levered under the boat, keel bolts fitted, and the ballast keel rolled back, only then was the error obvious. And obvious it was.
For weeks I had to keep James away from sharp objects - boy was he pissed at himself... While not a simple fix, the re-repair borders on sculpture and the area forward had to be replaced anyway.
No harm - no foul is my motto. smile.gif
Also, in the process of the re-repair, the keel was lowered and and additional two cans of Dolphnite added - as per survey.

If that ain't pretty folks, I don't know what is...well, maybe the ballast keel sandblasted and epoxied, the bottom planked, and some bottom paint, but one giant step at a time
