View Full Version : Light comedy

By the end of the day I'm full up with the news of the world. I know some people can't help themselves and must continue shooting up.

I just watched a pretty good episode of "Everybody Loves Raymond, the one where Frank loses his taste, but it's actually all about his pecker. Pretty banal, eh? But the writing, the timing of the actors, made it very funny.

That show isn't Pulitzer material, but it makes me laugh. Not all the time, but often.

The need for mindless absurdity in the face of the horror is the topic.

Abraham Lincoln was shot in the head at Ford's Theatre watching a production of "My American Cousin" a light comedy of the day. It's maybe not the best example because of the denoument, but why do you suppose he went there? It was to escape into something light and mindless. He, reportedly, loved such productions, and probably died mid chuckle.

I hear ya my brother

I just surfed 250+ freeking channels in an attempt to find a good light comedy in vain, so thus I'm back to the bilge.

something about a vast wasteland...

About 20 years ago, people started telling me there would one day be 500 channels. I told them to turn on a broadcast channel at 4 a.m. if they wanted to see the programming budget for each of those channels.

"All In The Family" with Archie and Edith would be my pick.
It's like time travel back to the 70's.

I hate TV though.
I'd rather DO something and listen to music.

I'm getting really tired of:
Cop shows
Forensic shows
Reality shows
repeats of the same old handful of movies
There are thousands of movies out there, yet we get rubbish consistantly.

if I were forced to watch another 'reality' build a motorcycle or hotrod show, I think I'd vomit

Last nite I ended up watching a documentary on the battle for Iwo Jima. Definitely not light.

Reality shows? If people want to watch reality, why watch TV?

Me, I've just started re-reading my P.G. Wodehouse collection.

People who watch reality shows don't want to watch reality. They want to watch tv :D
