Reading MM's Brazil Hzzbolicks, I've gotta think these people are planning something fairly big.

Barring a real nuke, which is possible, I'd smuggle in a few pounds of cesium and blow it off with dynamite in the financial district of N and in front of the Capitol.

NSA reader of this, please know I hope this doesn't happen. It's speculation I'm sure you and your compatriots are watching for. Please stop them

How sure? I'm as certain of the opposite. How can we be so far apart?

A lot of liberal tough guys are betting the farm that we won't be hit again.

GW bet the farm, the Gulf States, the budget, the military, you name it and he bet it. God said "let's roll!"

You will be hit next when you wake up and realise that GW et al have screwed the family pooch and sold you all down the river of military madness. The hit after that will be when you all realise that the rest of the world doesnt actually revolve around washington and that most of china and most of asia are developing business and technology and financial might enough to actually buy their raw resources and energy for a higher price than you can actually afford. So while you wallow about in "we are the greatest" the usurpers are about to topple you not by military might, but by economic muscle.....

Sorry to mention this but if a literal handful of religious crazies can send America onto a multi-billion warpath and alienate the entire world as well as sending you broke.....well a handful of caesium is a mere sideshow.

it was a strange alliance, faith based support for elitists allied with oil and military industry. who are experimenting with a resource war under the guise of nation building,,while shattering a country.

Go ahead, bring on the crippling of America. Cozy up to Chinese ideals.

Are we always right? No way. When the deeds are done you'll look back on our power with nostalgia.

It's going to get ugly.

I agree with you, but you've seen them on here, a noisy handful who frequently claim that the whole terrorism thing is made up to make people afraid, that it's all theater, that there is no threat.

So let's say that US gets damaged to a great extent ...

Does the rest of the world have the resources to do things like build the next generation of computers, fight the next plague, or ...?

I understand the world does not revolve about the US, but I suspect that there are some critical skills that reside in the US. Losing those might be bad for the entire world.

I hate to tell you George, there is no indispensable country, yours included. The world would survive.

As for the terrorism threat, maybe some countries will figure out how their foreign policy affects their reputation around the globe.

No reason for the U.S. to not get "hit" again. . .Not only has it been business as usual, it's been business as usual with a vengeance. Without any policy changes, there is no reason to expect otherwise.

Pay attention. ;)

The only reason 9/11 was an economic travisty is because we allowed to be one. Instead of "We have nothing to fear but fear itself" we got a bunch of Chicken Littles wrapping themselves up in duct tape and yelling "CODE RED! CODE RED!" Then they charged off and invaded the wrong country and haven't done anything else since. "Homeland Security" yeah, right!

Bin Laden hasn't been back because he hasn't needed to come back. Bush is doing more damage than Osama could have ever hoped to do himself and he's not going to mess up a good thing.

My greatest fear is not the "handfull of caesium" mentioned above but more that of pipe bombs with timers scattered around small town America in places where many people congregate.....like Walmarts, for example. To me that is the worst kind of terrorism I can imagine and how in the world could it be stopped, especially with our borders as porous as they are? This puts an altogether new meaning on the word "terrorism" by no longer associating it with some far off big city, but brings it right into everyday life of ALL the people..........now I wish I hadn't even had the thought....DAMN!

yep...no need to attack and take a chance on waking anyone up
