Finally got out for a ride on the wind and water today.

Here we are heading for Angels Gate, the San Pedro exit from L.A. Harbor:

Looking back the other direction at the Vincent Thomas Bridge and one of those monster cruise ships:

And here is one of the Johnsons, either the Irving or the Exy, don't know which:

My son at the helm, with the Palos Verdes Peninsula behind him:

My wife, Sue, with Catalina Island off to starboard:

And, last but not least (except for being so far away), a topsail gaff schooner south of us:

The forecast was for 10-15knots after noon, but it didn't happen:( So we beat west up to the Pt. Fermin bouy doing a whopping 3 knots, gybed and went running off on a starboard tack to the southeast at about the same speed. After putting the L.A. Light(at the Angels Gate entrance) off the port stern, we gybed onto a northwesterly run on a port tack back into the harbor. About halfway on this tack, the breeze started to come up, so at least we got to sail at speed thru Angels Gate, halfway down the main channel to our slip.

It was most pleasant though: seals were following dolphins right about where the picture with my son it was taken, jumping clear out of the water. A little more wind would have been nice, but it will happen!
