We just finished the movie. It's a must see for the footage alone but I think anyone who sees it will concur that Timothy Treadwell was certifiably crazy.

Is he the one killed by bears because he wouldn't treat them like bears?

Yep, there's some great film footage of the bears but this guy was completely crazy. You would have to see the movie to understand what I mean.
He lived every summer for thirteen years with the bears and no harm was done to him but I think he made a couple of fatal mistakes.
One was having the girl with him and another was being there at a time of year he had never been there before.
He was on his way home in October when he had an altercation at the airport over his plane ticket and got mad and went back into the wilderness.
The bears he was familiar with had all gone into hibernation and there were a few still out that he didn't know. Obviously still hingry before hibernating. It was one of these bears that killed them.
It's highly evident in the movie that this guy had a death wish and he got his wish.
It's sad he took the girl with him though.
He was a very troubled person. The movie is very interesting. You should go rent it, Phillip.

That's interesting, Mike, I didn't know those other circumstances. He SAID he had a death wish! But doesn't it seem many of these unexpected attacks occur when there are women around?
I think he finally met a grizz who just couldn't take the baby talk, but perhaps he did do some good through his clasroom lectures to young children. Perhaps he did leave a legacy of kids with more respect for the wild. But is it really a wilderness experience when you're cavorting in front of your own cameras?

I think he was so crazy that he didn't even know what fear was. They said the girl was afraid. I think the bear that killed them sensed her fear.

I wonder if they considered the female monthly cycle ? I saw some footage and the girl was absolutly petrified and rightly so, I would be and she had NO business being there. It seems like murder to me!

I don't think I would put much stock in a movie. I have hunted black bear for close to 20 years and there were a number of things in the movie that just didn't ring true.

I haven't seen the movie, but I have read up on the guy. He wasn't playing with a full deck.

He was the "Grizzly Manwich" and apparently stupid...criminally stupid in that he induced some woman to die because of his stupidity (no doubt he believed in being politically correct)

Well... it's an endorsement for the sound-track, not the movie....
