Iran again threatens to destroy Israel
Make no mistake - Target #1 of Iran's nukes will be Israel

While Jerusalem continues to downplay the direct and growing threat Iran poses to Israel, Iranian demagogue Mahmoud Ahmadinejad reiterated at the weekend that target #1 of Tehran's belligerence is none other than the Jewish state.

Just days after announcing Iran had successfully enriched uranium - a major step towards obtaining nuclear weapons - Ahmadinejad Friday declared at the opening of a conference in support of the "Palestinian cause" that Israel would soon be destroyed by its Islamic enemies.

"Like it or not, the Zionist regime is heading toward annihilation. The Zionist regime is a rotten, dried tree that will be eliminated by one storm."
Stated ominously the man who will soon have his finger on a nuclear trigger:

"Believe that Palestine will be freed soon."
The Associated Press last Wednesday quoted IDF Military Intelligence chief Maj.-Gen. Amos Yadlin as saying Iran will certainly have atomic weapons by the end of this decade.

Despite the clear and present danger, senior Israeli political and military leaders last week said they were concerned by recent developments and Ahmadinejad's statements, but recommended sitting tight while the international community continues to fumble through vain diplomatic efforts to prevent a nuclear Iran.

Demonstrating an undeserved degree of faith in both the ability and willingness of the United Nations to defend Israel, senior politician Shimon Peres told reporters in Jerusalem Saturday:

"The United Nations cannot but react. Iran is a member state of the United Nations that is threatening to destroy another member state of the United Nations."
But as Jerusalem Post columnist Caroline Glick noted in that paper's weekend edition, Iran has thrown down the gauntlet and it is time for the United States and Israel to decided if they are in this fight to win

(YAWN) They enriched just enough uranium to be noticable and suddenly, it's a "major step." Actually, they have about 10% of the centrifuges needed to produce weapons grade and it could easily be another decade before they're remotely a credible threat to other than their own backyard (contamination).

Ye demegogues are rattling ye sabres again!

Remember (what really happened to) the Maine!

In the end, there will be peole who are supprised and will say I just didn't believe...etc. But which "side" will be supprised we wonders?

On the one hand you have the crazy Iranians. On the other, George W Bush and his fundamentalist supporters. Both good ingredients for something really really bad.

It don't have to happen in the next 2 1/2 years and then we can probably blame a democrat...

I thought only the US was allowed to say who stays and who goes.

What is your source for this time line? The CIA?
All it would take would be a small gift from Pakistan to change the time line you gave by five years or more.
Heck, after WW2, we didn't think the Russians would have an Atomic bomb until 1955. Surprise!
I'm not rattling sabres. I am just pointing out that no one knows how long it will be before Iran has the capability of producing an Atomic Bomb. Countries can guess but as we all know, a guess is not always right.

Russian was then: this is now. It's a time and materials process and I think technologicaly savvy people can make pretty accurate estimates.

It would not take a small gift from Pakistan, it would take a rather large and obvious one. 1400-odd gas diffusion centrifuges aren't something you slip in your pocket.

God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. How shall we, murderers of all murderers, console ourselves? That which was the holiest and mightiest of all that the world has yet possessed has bled to death under our knives. Who will wipe this blood off us? With what water could we purify ourselves? What festivals of atonement, what sacred games shall we need to invent? Is not the greatness of this deed too great for us? Must we not ourselves become gods simply to be worthy of it? - Nietzsche

Meer, what about of bunch of small gifts. :)
Any idea as to how long it will take to reach the point where Iran has the capability of building a bomb has to be based on something. Intelligence or inside sources.
If a country is bound and determined to develop a bomb and already has the basic format down, all logical reasoning as to how long it will take to do so evaporates.
If Iran starts and accelerated program, then the timeline is up in the air.
I do not think it will be a year or even two years but I can see Iran having an Atmic bomb by 2010.
