Our boat's original auxilliary propulsion method is/was oars...While Nanoose now has an engine we'd like the ability to use her oars. Sometime before we purchased her the original set of oarlocks disappeared. Can anyone point us to a source for oarlocks that have a diameter (inside) greater than 2.5 inches?

The photo below shows one of the oars (and Sam the wonderdog...)

well, if you're ever dismasted, you're well stocked with jury-rig spars! :)

Talk to Port Townsend Foundry right across the ditch from you...they've made oversize oarlocks for me before with great results and reasonable cost.

Thanks, Figment. We never thought of that, but I guess we'll get home one way or another...even if we never find any oarlocks!!

Thanks, Bob! I'll send them an email.

I'm a big believer in having sweeps stowed away for emergencies.

And the solutions used to stow them can become high art.

Try:

http://www.shawandtenney.com/marine-hardware.htm

oarlock =(with ID equal to)= 2.5"

I bet that if theirs did not work for you that they would have a good lead on a source other than have some/one made.

Thanks, George. I saw those on ebay, but they have a diameter of 2.25, and we need 2.5.
