As a side note the navigator Ray McCool who was supposed to be on that trip but because of illness in his family was not on board during that fateful cruise.
Ray was also the navigator on the Nautilus when it went 90 North the first to do that.
After retirement from the Navy he went into real estate sales and was the agent I purchased my land through. We had a very interesting talk about his career.:)

Thank you for the reminder. Poignant photo. Portsmouth Naval Shipyard was my grandfather's stomping ground, although at an earlier time.
