Well, finally figured this out.
I'll be in Essex on the 29th.
Where the heck is this supposed "quick reply " icon?

Arrrgggghhh.... unfortunately I won't be there. I really wanted to meet y'all face-to-face, even the reprobate fascist right wing nuts :)
Unfortunately, that day (the 29th) starts a full week of family activities, beginning with the arrival of seven out-of-state relatives (and my obigation to make TWO airport runs to fetch them), proceeds to my daughter's wedding shower, and terminates the following weekend with the marriage of my nephew. All week long, I'll be responsible for the transport and entertainment of my mother, two aunts, an uncle, and a couple of cousins, arriving from NJ, FL, and CA.
Therefore, hoist a few for me (but don't even think about getting me to pick up the bar tab!) and remember to take photos.
Have fun, everyone!

Planning on it, but can make no guarantees... too many things going on right now to say 100% I can drop everything and take a weekend off.
Hope so. Would like to see some of you fine folks again and for the first time.
HEY! I can participate in the "new" forum!

I honestly wanted to come and meet all the old, and not so old, pharts and even have a cuppa coffee or sumthin (I do not drink that stuff), but I have an unavoidable prior committment....and free transport to and from...actually I had a very kind offer to come and go to this bash.....but bad timing..I wish all a very enjoyable get together.....so please hoist a couple for those that absolutely are unable to attend...

Ah heck!
Norman bowed out. Probably felt he would be outnumbered by those who are not so radical.
Seven out of 11,000 is not good.
Even a few from MD are planning on showing up. That should say something to the couch potatoes in RI, CT, MA, NJ, and NY.
Okay, the price of gas...?
Evertone thinks they are boat people. Must be fun watching the sun set on their TVs and from their various couches
Go ahead folks, give us your excuses. Except for a death in the family, there is no excuse. A family reunion. Yup! good excuse. Works everytime.
I think approximately 300 out of the 11,000 is full of .....
I think this is bloody pitiful.
This has been schedules well in advance. No real excuses will be accepted.
Joe is coming from 200 miles ( round trip )
Matt, if he makes it, is coming 325miles ( from St. Michaels )
Ian has to travel 200 miles round trip.
I have to travel the least but....
Okay folks, get off your butts.
Put the gardening on hold. Walk the dog before you leave. Come face to face with some others on the forum.
Here chicky chicky...chicky.....!
All of you get off your tails.
Hell, I don't get more than five responses to a gathering at the Wooden Boat Show. I even looked for a possible rendezvous without much success. And I have even offered dinner and cocktails aboard my yacht.
So folks, put your money where your keyboard is....

I'll be there.
If someone needs to find me, I'll probably be at the Essex Yacht Club having a dram...
It has a nice atmosphere!
If someone shows up early, my treat!

Really rather shocking that a get together in Mystic only has 5 attendees. I don't want to sound holier-than-thou (that really pisses me off when people do that) but I thought the highest concentration of "Forumites" was in the northeast - a place where no one is more than a few hours from Mystic.
Hmmm... Joe, how many people have you pissed off! ;) just kidding

You have heard the old saying " you can take a horse to water but..."
This applies to formites as well.
5 out of 11,800 plus. Well, not that good but
I've come up with possible excuses
1) Too far
2) Gas is too high
3) Family gathering to eat Easter leftovers
4) We celebrate Easter on the Russian calander
5) I lost my GPS overboard..well, out the car window
6) Got to plant my garden
7) Don't have anything to wear
8) I am not a formite that wants to meet anyone
9) Boat, we are going to talk about boats.
10) There is a political rally that weekend that I have to attend
11) There is a religious rally I have got to attend
12) I got to walk the dog
13) I've got to walk the cat
14) The dog has to walk me that day
15) My car won't start. I know it won't start
16) I don't have a car. Of course it won't start.
17) Where is Connecticut? Lost my AAA map of NE.
18) Too much snow can't make it
19) The Black Seal probably doesn't have fried clams
20) I just discovered I'm a criminal and will be in jail
21) Sorry can't miss my favorite game show on the telly
22) Sorry can't miss " As the World Turns "
23) The Black Seal doesn't have a couch

Ah yes, it has been viewed. Using one eye or two, people have looked at it...
In fact, it looks as though 1/10th of all registered formites have looked at it.
And only 7 are getting off the couch and getting together .. LOL.

Maybe it's just a timing issue. When I came down to Mystic with Mary for the gathering a coupla years ago we had about 25-30 people.
I'm saving my Mystic travel budget for the John Gardner Smallcraft Workshop Weekend in early June. Joe, you gotta bring Tidbit and Dove to the Workshop! It's a really fun weekend.

I'll be helping out Suzanne as she does her part in the local Relay For Life. I'll look for you all at the WoodenBoat show again this year.

Well, I am planning on being there. My dentist may have other ideas. He seems to think that I need a little work. ummm. I do not like dentists.
So, have an appointment tomorrow and Thursday...and probably the first several days next week if he can fill me in.
Ya all know how hard it is to get a dentist appointment unless your teeth are resting in your hand when you call.
So, I'm planning on it. If I can't get off next week I'm either gonna be dead or wish I was.

OK with Jamie ( Uncas ) backing out it may be time to regroup and reorganize this. What say you how can we accommodate the most formites have some fun have a beer and a few laughs.
Work with me guys I'm willing to organize what I can.
But 5 people is kinda lame for a 11,000 membership.

I'm still gonna be there. If you're gonna wimp out Joe, maybe more people will show up!

Aint gonna happen :(. Sorry guys but I'm not traveling 200 miles just to have a beer with 3 guys I have already met. part of these EBS's is to get people who have never met personally to shoot the sh*t and put a face to a screen-name. It's a shame that we have such a small RSVP turn out. And now that even Jamie is backing out due to dental concerns, I find myself optioning for WB Show in Newport over this one day excursion. For those that actually still attend this EBS please take photos.
Also if anyone would like to reschedule I'm still available, but lets make it a big one ;)

Assuming it's to happen and assuming our plans don't change, I don't think any of you have met Storm Petrel yet. She's planning to be the third with Mary Ellen and I. We have room for one more in the car anyone from Cape Cod????

I'm really sorry that I can't attend this one. Heck, I'm really sorry that I can't head north until after my root canal ( scheduled for the 1st. I have been here too long, spring is here and it is moving north.
I'm still packed.
So, perhaps it will have to be Newport. That one I won't miss.
And yes, there will be cocktails on my yacht and a bit more. 1800hrs or there about Sat. evening.

I'm still planning on it - including an afternoon at Mystic and bringing Storm Petrel as well as Mary Ellen.
So what's up?
Should we even bother with the trip.
I already blew out what's turning into a nice day to go to the Vineyard to work on Marmalade, not to guilt trip anyone.

Sorry to miss you Ian
Outta my hands.
Perhaps I'll be able to catch up with you on the Cape this summer.
Have fun at Mystic. And give us a report back on the bookstore now that it has changed direction/hands/management.
ps...I don't like going into Hyannis during the summer but there are some nice little coves the RI side of the Cape that I like to sneak into.

Ian, so sorry. I'm at home. Trying to stay close to Jenny (recent health concerns and dr warnings that she should anticipate further trouble anytime - "soon.").
I really am sorry. I was sincerely looking forward to meeting you.
To anyone planning to attend, please accept my apologies.

Anyone left besides Mrleft8 and Storm Petrel, Mary Ellen and myself?
This is still worth it especially as I can add a Defender run and Mystic is always inspiring but, dare I say, with Uncas hors d'combat, might we want to hit that big steak joint at the Mystic exit near the aquarium? From Cape Cod, Essex is another 1/2 hour.
Just a thought.

I am interested in what is going on at the bookstore ( Mystic Seaport ) since the management has changed.

It depends on how the rest of the day goes, but I might actually show up for this thing after all.

Ah nuts. We'll miss ourselves.
The three of us need to combine a bit more to justify the 2+ hours drive but, wherever two or three are gathered in the WoodenBoat name there I shall be.
