I finished it a few days ago. It's my favorite book of the series so far, I think. I'm about knee-deep in "The Thirteen Gun Salute".

My personal favorite is "Desolation Island."

But do tell us, sir, for the sake of a pleasant discussion, what did you find so intriguing about "The Letter of Marque?"

It is only as good if the country that issued it wins. Otherwise, those with the letter are and always will be considered pirates on the open sea and subject to the usual punishment for pirates.

I think I like the redemption; the Phoenix-like return. I don't want to give it away for those who haven't read it.

Sorry. I thought you were referring to the original Letters of Marque not a series.

Oh, the year was 1776
How I wish I was in Sherbrooke now
A Letter of Marque came from the King
to the scummiest vessel I'd ever seen
Goddam them all

I was told we cruise the seas
for American gold
We'd fire no guns
Shed no tears
Now I'm a broken man on a Halifax pier
The last of Barrett's privateers
