We are looking for a suitable replacement boat for the one we just lost. We were going to convert her to a cruising/liveaboard. The skipper was supposed to bring her down to St Johns, NF from Cartwright (lat. 53.5N) and tried to make an icebreaker out of her. She is now under the ice. She was a 1973, 75 foot wooden patrol boat with twin screws (draft 5.5) . A suitable replacement might be an ex Navy YP or Coast Guard Cutter (Wheeler, Peterson, Stephens) Draft is a problem for us as we are on the west coast of Florida.
Any help would be appreciated.

Was this a ex RCMP boat that was being sold by Scruton Marine brokerage among others? If I recall she needed some transmission work (rechroming packs) but otherwise was in good shape

I just got this off the site, and it seems this is another one maybe? check it out... nice boat

Yes she was ( I just got the picture to work). The Owner re worked the transmission. She was the "Centennial". Her purpose was to intercept Rum Runners.

Damn, that a was nice boat. She foundered in a lot of water I suppose.. Have you checked Scruton Marine for anything else you might like?

Actually, She sank at her own wharf in Cartwright, Probably only 20 foot deep.

Is anyone going to salvage her? I would think she could be saved... what was the nature of her ice damage..sprung planks I suspect

There is an ex-fisheries patrol boat, built by St. Mary's Shipbuilding in 1967, lying at Snyder's Shipyard in Nova Scotia that is similar in size and configuration to the one that you just lost except a single-crew configuration. An American couple bought her when she was decommissioned five or six years ago and planned to convert her to live-aboard use. I did the preliminary design layout for the conversion. Unfortunately, these plans were shelved when the owner was diagnosed with cancer, and the boat has been lying at Lunenburg or most recently at Snyder's since then. She looks like hell because work had begun on the conversion and a lot of the interior has been stripped and the paint has not been kept up, but I don't believe that structural deterioration has begun. A survey could confirm this. For the broker's spec sheet (photo is about 5 years old), check out http://www.sunnybrookyachts.com/broker/br_listing_detail_handler.jsp?company=syb&boat_id=678534&units=Feet&currency=&listing_id=&page=broker&mls_true=

You might consider buying her back from the insurance company for a deep discount.......In only twenty feet one could certainly raise her.

How did she become an icebreaker at her own mooring? Did the water around her freeze and crush the hull planks?

The boat sank as he tried to back over ice that was at least a foot thick at the dock. No insuranceas the boat was north of lat. 50.
The St Marys boat draws too much for us to use here. Thanks for the replys

PS I am posting another thread regarding a 1912 TRUMPY that need saving.

The trade publication "Boats & Harbors" has an ad for a company offering mid 1960's Trumpy built double planked 80ft fast patrol boats, starting from $20,0000 US, less engines. The boats are located in Virgina. I'll get more information.

The list price is $120k, but the broker said they'd take $70k
