Certainly the race in its modern incarnation does nothing to honor these two of man's best friends. I can little understand how men could consider subjecting their dogs to the current Iditarod.

I can little understan why you think it's just men in the race.

I use the terms 'man' and 'men' to indicate mankind, in this case. Sorry if I offend, but I refuse to go entirely PC. Regardless the vast majority of the handlers of these dogs in this race should be ashamed of themselves for the treatment of their dogs.
How many will die this year, purely in the name of sport?

You PC? To quote Joe, BWAHHHHH!!! I don't go in for a sport where freezing to death or getting attacked by some large woodland creature are a regular occurence.

Dogs bred to pull sleds in the cold aren't really happy doing anything else, unless it's eating frozen food.

Dogs bred to pull sleds in the cold aren't really happy doing anything else, unless it's eating frozen food. I well understand what it is that makes certain breeds happy doing certain things. However, that doesn't mean they should be happily ran to death.
