I am getting very frustrated here. I have a stack of hook & loop RO backing pads and Fein fingers that the hook material has either worn down or melted or lost their adhesive bond. The backing foam and metal on all of them are in good shape. I am not about to pay $19 for a couple of Fein fingers just to get 20 cents worth of Velcro.

Has anyone found adhesive backed hook material with those very short hooks?

I have had the same frustrating trouble. I tried everything to keep from enriching Mr. Fein beyond his just deserts. I could not find any self-adhesive Velcro that would stay on there. My machine is one of those original one speed jobs and the action is just too violent for the adhesive. My best was to epoxy some fabric backed Velcro on the rubber and sand it off when the fingers got destroyed. I finally went back to buying new pads. Luckily I don't have much use for the little loud, dusty, SOB but when I need it, I need it. Good luck.

Glen, I bought some once from Klingspor, I think it was. Got a piece about 9" square and used contact cement to attach it after cleaning off the old.

Dont know if it will help but Wallmart sells adhesive backed velcro hook and loop strips.
I bought some 2 inch wide strips of a roll. It was in the sewing section. But I dont know if the heat from sanding would cause it to loosen up.

Ditto on buying velcro strips. I bought some rolls of velcro from McMaster Carr about ten years ago, the kind that has the VHB (very high bond) backing, and have converted a ton of disks to the "loop" and made about half a dozen "hook" backing pads for my various grinders, drills and upright stationary disc sanders. Never lost adhesion on them - even under heavy use. The "Hook" strips from these rolls are superior in holding power to the 'off-the-shelf' hook pads.

McMaster Carr has at least a whole page dedicated to velcro.

My Porter-Cable version has done the same thing. I'm about to sand it smooth (with another sander of course) and use sticky-back paper on it to see if it will work.

Gotta hate stuff that doesn't last!!!

I have plenty of adhesive backed Velcro but the problem with "normal" Velcro is that the hooks are to long. Sanding hooks are about 1/3rd as long and arranged considerably denser. It works OK on an ROS but on the vibrating type like the Fein you loose a lot of motion with the hooks flexing.

Same thing happened to me, mostly on the corners(poor technique). Velcro has their high strength squares at home cheapo. I had to use to bits to cover pad, but have not had any problem yet
