My editor here at the Banner kindly published a photo of me launching the boat on front page Thursday. I was thrilled and honored.

But here's the thing: A guy in town called me this afternoon and told me he has a '56 or '57 Thompson runabout, 17' or so, that he's had for years and years. He said he'd "make me a good deal on it."

I'm going see it tomorrow. I'm flat broke, too. May have to call the bank!

We'll see. I'm eager to see it.

I'm eager to see it. Eager!!
Now isn't that a writer's choice of words??
When I went to look at the 1970 Triumph Tiger that I've had now for 25 years the owner advised me to bring my check book. Of course he was right!
Good luck. Bring somebody with some objectivity. Like your accountant.

Roger: Have a little patients, the free ones will start showing up any day now.

A good deal? Of course the boat will be free. But how much money is he going to contribute to the restoration?

We can save our breath he's hooked. And there is no cure.

mmppphhh. Welll being a Lyman owner and all, I think the Thompson's are a bit heavy on the plank width's. The don't quite have the nice lines that you would be looking for. But apart from that I think they are a great boat. Heavy, with a high freeboard, but still a really nice boat. Especially for bigger bodies of water.

I agree, the Thompsons are heavy and high, but I think they'd make a good bay boat, in the protected waters off our coast. My runabout probably would not do well with that.

I don't need another boat right now, and I was planning on doing some other things before starting Marsh Cat, like finishing this durn house remodel! But as I've mentioned before, there's virtually no wooden boats around here, especially classics like this, and even if I couldn't get to work on it right away, I could stow it away safely.

I was looking at those yesterday. I like the style, for bay use, certainly. I also like the prices. If the boat needs lots of work, maybe I will get "a good deal."

He said it was covered with a tarp, but in the sun. Said there was some rot, and some loosening of joints. I am going this afternoon if we can arrange a meeting.
