Top site Mate, I can relate to to some of these irritations.

Red Cedar,(as stated) may cause problems. This stuff sends some people troppo. It has been banned fron the 'Fine Furniture Workshop' at the Canberra School of Art.

Swelling of eyelids, White Cedar, I've used it once. The first and last time that I'll ever use it. I couldn't see for nearly a week about a month ago. After sanding some for about 5 minutes. Rohan my colleague, not the slightest reaction to it. Gary my Boss, he was not impressed. I wasn't either.

Warren.

I like the one about Black Cherry causing "Wheezing, giddiness"

The beauty of black cherry is noting to be sneezed at and the euphoria from a successful project would leave one a bit giddy.

Some wood indeed can cause problems but nothing in my experience justifies much concern except to an up tight industrial hygenist.

--Norm[/QB]When I read that Teak can cause Swelling of the Scrotum I think that that hygenist might end up walking funny.

And when I read that part out loud, I hear a voice float across the shop "I've had that..." More than I needed to know, I guess. Serves me right for liking sophomoric toilet humor.

Hey, that swelling reaction to teak is very well known to medical specialists in the Far East. Nothing to sneeze at, I'll tell you. Take a look at the Burmese teak woodworker pictured at http://poetry.rotten.com/stillfried/ and I guarantee you'll think twice before you make fun of "up tight industrial hygenists!"

Which leads to the classic question "Would you date a guy with elphantitis of the nuts?"

Seriously some woods do cause problems you have to be concerned. but like most governments overreaction is the first response. A friend who is a tile man was doing a big job. Had an 18 wheeler of sand dumped on site. The OSHA man tole him that the msds (material saftey data sheet) said it could cause cancer and it would have to bew bagged until used. With two more trucks scheduled to deliver (from a sand pit about 10 miles away) my friend was concerned. The OSHA official finally settled for putting a fence around the sand pile and posting signs "Danger Sand" around.

My concern with actions like this is the crying wolf syndrome. When the government does have something bad to warn us about no one takes it seriously.

I'll be good, Bob. I'll be good. Just keep the industrial Hygenist and her teak dust away.
