Well as you all know redlead powder in Australia is impossible to buy and it is the main ingrediant in red lead primer. The only place in Australia we can even buy redlead primer is Hempel paints in laverton victoria. Well it's all over! Hempel paints are not producing anymore redlead due to a govermment regulation. Phill who owns the chandlery at Yaringa Marina says he's brought the last pallet in aust. and he's already sold the whole lot of it, hell i brought a dozen 5litre tins myself, :D tongue.gif it looks like we may have to speak to our U.S. forumites to see if we could get a regular supply of redlead powder sent over and mix our own primer. :D

Hi Pete, Yep i'm dead serious call your local chandler tomorrow and cheack but i'm sure redlead is no more! I'm, hoping some of the U.S. boys will jump on and confirm that the powder is still available there, i'm pretty sure it is. I suppose it's 5.00am over there now so they havn't woken up yet. Cheers!

It seems to be available online. Here's one source:

Based on trouble we've had shipping stuff to our son down there in Qld, lots of luck getting it through your customs.

Good News !! smile.gif smile.gif Mic, I went up to Bris today and bought another 10 litres of Hempel Red Lead in 1 litre tins. The sales bloke said it was going to be available for another 12 months !So if you need some, get it now...I'm a bit suspicious of the 12 months, it might turn out to be 3.

Cost was $18.70 per litre tin including GST (they sold it at the 5 litre rate).Hempel Paints.

Gidday Peter and Mic. Same thing goes for NZ. It's been banned for some years now but Foster & Co are still selling it over the counter here in Auckland.

General concensus though is that it's not available in NZ. Go figure.

Havn't heard about powder though. Do remember mixing 50/50 red lead paint and raw linseed oil at a boat yard during school holidays way back when...
