View Full Version : New Prop

Guy just sold me a superduper prop for my old Johnson, said it would take off better, which it did, but the boat, which used to lift at about 15 knots, didn't lift at all with this prop. The bow wave was over my head and she was yawing all over the place. Faster yes, but otherwise not as good. Could a prop do this, or is it something else?

What horsepower, what boat, what pitch prop, what are your RPM's at wide open throttle with each prop?
Not enough info here to say...

RPMs? Pitch? All I know is she runs, that's good enough for me. 75 hp on a 19-foot utility. Not a very stable hull to begin with, but it was much better with the old prop. I guess I can find out the pitch. I have manual trim tabs set open, which helped her lift, but they seem to have no effect at all with this setup. Guess I'll fool around with it a while and then go back to the old one. I don't need acceleration, I want smooth cruising. Do you need higher pitch or lower for this?
