I just signed up for the Wooden Boat Repair Class being taught at the San Francisco Maritime Park in October (10th - 15th). I was told that if they don't get another 3 signups in the next week they will have to cancel due to lack of participation.
If you live in or near the San Francisco Bay Area, and are thinking of or planning to take the wooden boat repair class, and haven't signed up as yet, please do so NOW! You can call (207) 359-4651 to sign up.
For a once a year opportunity, it would be a shame to let this one pass on by.
Thanks!

I'm begging you, sign up for the class. I'm the instructor, and I've never been to San Francisco. Also, have 16 month old lag (like a grandson) in Palo Alto. :D

I received a message that the class still needs TWO students, before the end of this week (by Sept 16th).
To those in the S.F. Bay Area - please tell your woodie friends about the class. If they would like to learn alternatives to taking off the cabin top with a chainsaw and using the wood hull as a plug for a fiberglass full, then here is their chance to learn to do it right. If they don't take this class, they'll be using 5200 everywhere and glassing their butt blocks to stop their leaks! Save a wooden boat enthusiast - sign up now!

Cool! I posted the class info on my Small Wooden Boats group on Tribes.net, but the coverage will be small.
Best of luck and I hope the classes are as rewarding as they look.

Well, although you all know from Ellis' post that the class is a go, I just received my confirmation in the mail. Woo-Hoo!
Even though there are now enough students, there is still room if anyone else wants to sign up. And, if you need accomodations, you can even stay in the Balclutha (http://www.nps.gov/safr/local/balc.html) ! I'm too close to have that option, but talk about an experience! A class on wooden boat repair, while bunking in the foc'sle of last remaining member of the Star fleet. According to the web site, she was the "Bounty" in 1933's "Mutiny on the County." "Avast and ahoy!"
Anyway, sign up if you're of a mind.

How do you pick a boat to repair? I've got a graduate of the SF Maritime shop that certainly needs fixing up, but don't want to wait for the next class...

I didn't know about the Star of India. Thanks for the link and pictures. To be able to actually sail one, rather than just visit. I'm definitely jealous.
