Made the first cuts today. The reason it looks like he's cutting cardboard instead of plywood is because Kevin's building his boat out of MDO, a good compromise between price and quality. The 3/8" two sided MDO is fairly light despite it's thickness. I haven't weighed a sheet yet, but I'll wager this material isn't going to be all that much heavier than going with glassed 1/4" AC fir and it may even be lighter than glassed over 1/4"BC pine.

Here's Kevin making one of the first cuts on one of the plywood frame webs.

And here is one of the webs laying on top of the full size lofting of the frames.

I left him this evening with the job of cutting out the rest of the parts including the transom, the rudder and daggerboard.

Next visit will have us cutting the frame bevels and assembling the frames.

Then we'll scarf the sheets for the topsides and bottom. Once that's done, it'll only be a short time before we go 3-d with this little instant boat of our own devising.

What!? You don't think I've got it set shallow enough? Looked OK to me, and more importantly we got no tear outs.

Looks like it ought to be a sweet little boat. Kevin should enjoy building it.

Nah, Mike, the picture is misleading. The blade comes out the bottom of the ply about 1/4" to 3/8" of an inch.
