Our local rowing club had been using a wooden double sculling shell, on loan from the club in Tulsa. They contacted us this spring indicating that they needed to get the boat back. The boat had been in our care for a few years. It had been taken out of service for some needed repairs. I intended to make the repairs and replace the soft decks......really get her up in good shape, in hopes that our club would purchase the boat (OAR is not into wood boats ....this was the only pure woodie we had). Anyway....time was getting short, so I made the repairs (minor repairs of the veneers, some hull fairing of old repairs, replacement of part of the port splashguard that was broken, etc.) I put a few coats of new varnish on and patched up the old soft decks, and we sent it back to Tulsa early this summer.
Now, there is a new TGI Fridays restaraunt near us here in OKC...........guess what is gracing their walls?........Yep, the Knight of the Brazen Serpent shall see no more water under her keelson. Bummer....she was a nice boat for a couple of lightweight rowers. I think they call that "progress". Progress sucks.
I guess I need to go eat at Fridays to see the boat.....don't know if they did anything to her before they sold her. I'll get a picture if I can.

On the wall at a Friday's  . Isn't that like taking a picture of your grandmother with her girdle showing???

Better yet you find some pictures of her in the water, copy them and insert in dime store frames, and see what kind of ransom Friday's will pay for "significant related memoraibilia" :D

I retrieved 2 wooden paddles, made locally and used in the 1956 Melbourne olympics from the wall of a pizza restraunt last year. Both are back in the water and a joy to use.
It's nice to have history in your hand.
:D :D

An Oselver and a Muscongus Bay Sloop built by the Apprenticeshop ended up hanging above restaurant tables on wires from the roof trusses at the Fulton 'Fish Market' mall in NYC. They're not there anymore last time I looked. I think the retail space is a GAP now. Wonder what happened to the boats.

I'd be reluctant, eating my lunch, under such a Sword of Damocles, but I'll bet the insurance was paid.
