"The ship that capsized at the port of Albany, is now deemed a constructive total loss. The Jumbo shipping company says that means the Stellamare won't necessarily be scrapped, but it will be sold at scrap value. The buyer can then determine whether it will repair the ship, or take it apart. The Coast Guard will decide when the ship will be moved."

The Stellamare capsized almost a month ago when two huge generators were loaded on board. Three Russian sailors died in the mishap. All three of their bodies have been recovered.

Just saw on TV that the Stellemare has been sold for $125,000! The new owner plans to return it to active commercial service.

The formerly capsized Stellamare now has a new home and a new owner. Bart Brake towed the ship from the Port of Albany to his terminal in Bethlehem. Brake bought the 22-year-old ship for $125,000 and says he's planning to clean up the ship and power it for a new future. The Stellamare capsized in the Port on December 9, while two GE generators were being loaded onto it. Three Russian crewmen died in the accident.

Well, back in 1984 we sold the Happy Runner, also a heavy lift ship that capsized on the berth, in New Orleans (*see "corruption" thread) after raising her (the technicalities of the marine insurance process in that instance were that she was a CTL, notice of abandonment was tendered and of course rejected, and as the P&I Club we ended up paying for the wreck removal which empowered us to sell the remains.

She became the "Dock Express Texas" - the cost of refit in the USA qualified her for US flag. Neat move.
